November 20, 2008 2050 VLSB - UC Berkeley On the morning of November 1st, Sikhs paused to reflect upon the 24th anniversary of the Delhi Sikh Pogrom. Following the assassination of Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984, actors in the Indian government set into motion a planned, systematic targeting of Sikhs. In the short span of several days, the concerted effort to identify and exterminate the Sikh identity resulted in the deaths of thousands of Sikhs.
The Sikh Students Association of UC Berkeley hosted a screening of The Widow Colony - India's Unsettled Settlement, a documentary of testimonies of the widows of the Sikh men who were killed in the anti-Sikh massacre of November, 1984. Producer, Manmeet Singh, led a discussion after the movie and answered questions from the audience.
