The Yuba City Nagar Kirtan brings together over 70,000 members of the Sikh and non-Sikh faiths annually. It involves a procession of religious floats leaving the Gurdwara Sahib in the morning and returning to the Gurdwara Sahib later in the day.

This year the main focus of the Nagar Kirtan was the 300 year anniversary of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib JiSri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth of the Sikh Gurus, affirmed the sacred text Adi Granth as his successor, terminating the line of human Gurus, and elevating the text to Sri Guru Granth Sahib. From that point on, the text remained not only the holy scripture of the Sikhs, but is also regarded by them as the living embodiment of the Ten Gurus. The role of Guru Granth Sahib, as a source or guide of prayer, is pivotal in worship in Sikhism.

For this eveent Berkeley's SSA collaborated with other SSAs throughout California in order to make a float for the nagar kirtan. This is was an extremely enriching experience for all the members.
